In a bid to bolster their midfield armoury, Arsenal are ready to launch a bid for Juventus midfielder Mario Lemina, according to the Evening Standard.
Arsene Wenger is reportedly keen to add some physicality to his midfield, which can often be outmuscled in the middle of the park.
However, the Gunners will likely face stiff competition for Lemina’s signature, with Roma and Schalke also ready to battle for the Gabon internationals signature.
How good has Lemina been this season?
Since his move from Marseille in the summer of 2015, Lemina has been unable to hold down a regular place in the very talented Juventus first team. In fact, the 23-year-old has only managed eight starts for the Serie A champions this season.
However, the Gabon international has impressed when given the chance. Lemina has been likened to Paul Pogba in the French media, in no small part because of his physical presence combined with his ability with the ball at his feet.
Would Lemina be a good fit for Arsenal?
Arsene Wenger is thought to be a long-term admirer of Lemina, dating back to his time at Marseille. With Arsenal failing to qualify for the Champions League for next season, Wenger may have to change his transfer policy. While Lemina is a player with an exceptional future ahead of him, it is believed that he would be happy to join a club without Champions League football in order to play more first team football.
Arsenal will undoubtedly be spending considerable this summer, and £20 million for a player of Lemina’s ability and potential is a relative steal in today’s market.
